Let's start with a bit of history about the origin of Bermuda shorts.

"Bermuda Shorts for men are not uniquely Bermudian, they were created at the turn of the 20th century originally by British military forces – and not in Bermuda, in London. By men in desk jobs whose function it was to see their soldiers and navy personnel were appropriately but lightly attired for duty at British Army garrisons and Royal Navy bases in tropical and sub-tropical parts of the old British Empire." bermuda.com

When I first moved to Bermuda in 2009 it took some getting used to going to work and seeing grown men wearing shorts with long socks! Seeing so much of a work colleagues leg hair is erm, interesting to say the least!

I asked the audience, the IG one that is, on whether they would wear Bermuda shorts to work or not, and the results were 50/50. To be fair, there are many contributing factors at play here! Wearing Bermuda Shorts to work in a cold and grey day in Ireland isn't very appealing.

I think I would wear them to work but it's my white leg-eens that scare me more than the actual short wearing.

Bermuda shorts or "dress" shorts as they are also known are a very versatile and comfortable addition to any wardrobe.

I like that they cover a fair bit of the leg. No bum-bum shorts over here thanks very much!

In the Style File, I've styled some longer length shorts. You may notice I included a cute pair that are a bit shorter and baggier and this is simply because I LOVE this outfit so much, I'm manifesting it arriving in my wardrobe. Lets hope it works!

Whether paired with a simple T-shirt and trainers, a short-pantsuit, or a sweater and sport sandals, there are endless winning outfit formulas to try out for yourself.

The bright-green linen blend tailored Bermuda shorts below from COS are absolutely stunning. The colour is so vibrant and fun! Pair with the matching cropped jacket, you will stand out like the Emerald you are!

I've paired it with these gorgeous mesh and leather mules. Throw on a white bodysuit or tank underneath for an event/evening, or you could easily dress down with sneakers and a light sweater.

I purposely didn't include a pair of the usual denim Bermuda shorts you might be used to seeing as I love these trendy ones from Copenhagen brand Stella Nova. They are knee length with a cute scalloped edge detail on the bottom. They are more edgy than the traditional slim fit denim ones on the market. Available from my friends boutique called Anthologyboutique (IG handle) based in London and delivers here.

Added a cute vintage look T-shirt and some en vogue sporty sneakers from New Balance.

Next, I styled an office appropriate Bermuda short combo for the heatwave we're going to have this summer. See, I'm still manifesting!

Just add a blazer, a black leather tote and grab your lunch bag.

Another great Bermuda short from COS. They have the best selection of knee length shorts on the high street. My humble opinion, of course.

If you are coveting a pair of authentic Bermuda shorts, then I highly recommend checking out TABS Bermuda https://www.tabsbermuda.com which is a female led, locally owned business.

Last but not least, my favourite outfit of them all! This is the cutest combo and if my manifesting works out I'll be wearing all summer and for many years to come. Each piece can also be worn with many other chic outfit combinations so the cost per wear is totally worth it! :-) My motto!

I hope you enjoyed reading this weeks blog post and are inspired to try the Bermuda Short trend or just wear shorts and air those legs out!

Thanks for reading and as the Bermudians like to say,

have a Bermudaful day!

This weeks post couldn't be more weather appropriate as it's super hot and sunny on the Emerald Isle. Maybe the child of Prague does work after all ;-)

It's time to get my milk-bottle-white legs out and set them free after what seems like a very long winter. I'm a short dress gal but after Cryotherapy this week on some suspicious looking sun damage I think it's time to invest in a longer length. On the plus side it'll save having to apply sun-cream as they'll be covered up!

Spring dresses are a wardrobe staple and a quick fix in warmer days with a cardy hanging out in your bag for the wind slap to remind you that you live in ireland and don't be getting notions you're in Spain!

This seasons dress trends are bright and cheerful. Flowy maxi dresses with detailed patterns and boho is back with a bang, expect lots of fringe and coin belts! There is an emphasis on sustainable fashion and eco-friendly cotton and linen fabrics.

Some fresh styles include milkmaid styles to summery crochet.

On the colour chart it's all about blues and white. The LBD is now the LWD (Little White Dress).

I've chosen some Spring styles below to get you started.

Cute Crochet:

A crochet maxi dress is a major fashion trend for SS '24. It's an instant update to your dress wardrobe.

This one from Maje has the perfect mix of spring hues and a halter neckline adds a fresh touch.

If you have an occasion coming up and you think this is perfect for it -I'm happy to tell you that you can rent it from Happy Days rental: https://happy-days.ie

The LWD:

Step aside the LBD and make room for the LWD in 2024. White dresses will be everywhere this season, not just at a wedding! Both mini and maxi lengths are embraced with gusto.

Lean into boho to kill two trends in one by adding a chain belt a la Rixo. They have been doing coin belts since the brand first came on the scene in 2015. Although, if you're a savvy thrift shopper then i'm sure there are vintage coin belts out there waiting to be found. If your in London i'd highly recommend Portobello Market on a weekend. Bound to find one there amongst other delicious treasures.

Anyway back to the LWD. I adore this one from a brand called Bardot. The halterneck is stunning and the detailing in the bodice with the tie bow at the back exudes elegance and sophistication. This is the perfect occasion dress with heels but would look just as cool with cowboy boots at Coachella.

The Tea Dress:

I LOVE this dress! The colours spark immediate joy and the neckline has a vintage feel to it.

I always feel very lady like when I wear a tea dress. I should be at a fancy hotel having afternoon tea with tiny sandwiches and sipping a non Lyons tea out of a fine china teacup with saucer. Oh yes!

But, in 2024 tea dresses are effortlessly dressed up and down with a heel or with a sneaker and still acceptable to wear either to afternoon tea. We make our own choices, yeah!

The Blue Hue:

Ice blue and the blue hue in general is the colour trend this season. I love the colour blue in all it's hues. The colour blue promotes a sense of peace and relaxation. You will notice a lot of businesses use this colour for these reasons. So, lets embrace the trend and wear more blue so we can feel at peace. Yip, I'm in :-)

This blue dress is perfect for Spring with it's high neckline. Throw on a biker jacket and boots for an edgy look or pair with a flat sandal for brunch. It's so versatile which makes it the perfect dress for our climate.

Other key dress trends this season are dresses with asymmetric detailing, milkmaid dresses, printed dresses.

I hope you enjoyed this post and are inspired to find your perfect on trend Spring dress. Thanks for reading.

May your style blossom like a spring flower!

I'm very lucky to be heading off on a sun holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm not gonna lie, i'm very very excited about it. I feel like it's been a long damp winter and i need some vitamin sea.

I've rounded up some of my absolute favourite holiday bits that will take me from beach cabana to beach taverna :-)

Beach Day Glam

Swimwear: I love this lobster swimsuit so much I actually bought it! It has built in padding which is a must for me. It has good coverage on the behind too as thong swimwear terrifies me! An oversized shirt serves as the perfect beach coverup and is light to pack too.

Accessories: Oversized sun hats, colorful sunglasses, and a funky beach bag add a touch of glam. I adore this beach bag from funky brand Le Pom Pom who are known for their vibrant and fun designs. The brand is now stocked in Avoca which is amazing! It is baffling to me when i see pictures of celebrities in magazines at the beach with layers of necklaces and think to myself, what about the suncream staining and the stickiness..huh?! But i suppose real gold doesn't make that mess now does it! Anyway, to avoid said stickiness, earrings are the perfect beach accessory especially for someone who only just about dips their toe in the ocean!

Footwear: Slip-on sandals or espadrilles are perfect for sandy walks. I love a good Birkenstock but sometimes a nice simple sandal that's easy to pair with multiple outfits works better for the pesky luggage restrictions.

All the gorgeous items are linked below.

Seaside Taverna: Sipping in the sunshine and sea views

You're exhausted from a long hot day by the beach so it's time for a quick change before resuming the holiday position of sitting whilst eating and drinking, naturally..

Lightweight Dresses: Flowy midi dresses are a summer staple. Choose breathable fabrics like linen or cotton. I love the colours in the plaid one in the Style File above. Very easy to style and would work just as well with a pair of sneakers.

Statement Jewellery: Bold earrings instantly elevate any outfit. How cute are these Starfish earrings. The Anni Lu beaded necklace adds another playful touch. A great brand for colourful and playful pieces. Definitely worth checking out.

Casual Bag: Okay, so I know this fish bag is a bit Marmite but, i'm crazy about it - it is literally made for me! It's from a brand called Staud. I've followed them for years now and I have collected a fair few of their pieces. I have a bag from Staud that always gets lots of attention when I wear it. It's very well made too. I noticed Brown Thomas has started stocking the brand but only clothes not accessories (yet!).

Fish bags are going to be big this season.. you heard it here first!

Culture Dip: Soaking it all up

So you learned the hard way, SPF stands for ‘Should’ve Protected my Flesh!’ 😄 So as the beach isn't an option it's a walking tour to absorb all the local culture has to offer.

Two-piece: A short and shirt two piece is, in my opinion, a holiday essential (well, besides SPF that is). This lightweight number is from an Aussie brand called Sancia. It's a brand I can envision will be available here in the not too distant future. It embodies a very cool and chic aesthetic.

Sunhat: A sunhat is another holiday essential. As mentioned previously, Avoca are now selling the brand Le Pom Pom who design the most colourful and fun hats.

Accessories: I adore these crab earrings. The shoes are from another brand I love but isn't available here called, Loeffler Randall. I own a few pairs of shoes by the brand and they have lasted years and I still love and wear them. These raffia shoes are perfect for wearing with shorts in summer and jeans in colder months. They would make a great

trans- seasonal shoe.

I'm back with the brand Staud again for the "Staudines" bag. It's so playful and fun. The colours in the bag will withstand the test of time so will remain stylish and vibrant through every season.

So whether you're sipping on a Pina Colada on a beach in Bermuda or strolling the streets of Paris, let your holiday style be as bold and adventurous as your travel itinerary.

The best souvenirs are the memories you make!

Thanks for reading.
