What is dopamine and why all the fuss I hear you ponder? Well, here are my musings on this trend.

The Oxford dictionary tells us that dopamine is:

"A catecholamine that is a precursor in the synthesis of noradrenaline and adrenaline. It also functions as a neurotransmitter, especially in the brain. Dopamine acts on areas of the brain to give you feelings of pleasure, satisfaction and motivation. Dopamine also has a role to play in controlling memory, mood, sleep, learning, concentration, movement and other body functions".

When dopamine is released in large amounts, it creates feelings of pleasure and reward which motivates us to repeat a specific behaviour. Basically you get a dopamine hit after you exercise, eating something yummy, base-jump off Mount Everest, or, keep it simple and wear bright colours. As a qualified Colour therapist, I can categorially attest to the health benefits of wearing colour.

Although, it has to be said a colour that works for you may not work on someone else. It's completely individualistic! Many factors contribute to this for e.g. personality, preferences, skin tone. hair/eye colour and aura.

I love wearing bright colours but I also wear black and grey too. It really depends on my mood. I will always wear a bright colour to an interview for confidence. The colour green instils a sense peace and calm. Yellow is the colour of joy (for me anyway). Red can be a stimulating colour but also increase anger. Blue is calming but can also be associated with cold. This is all subjective though as people have different attitudes to certain colours and their emotions that are attached to that particular shade.

Have a look in your wardrobe and see if you are drawn to a particular colour and then ask yourself what does that colour remind you of. Does it spark joy? Does it make you feel sad? Remind of you of a past experience?

Have fun with it and pick the colours that bring you the most joy!

Let me be clear, this is not a post about peach fuzz "down below" ahem... I am of course talking about Pantone's Colour of the Year 2024! Always lowering the tone, I know I know. :-)

Anyway, lets lean into this Peachy colour.

For the past 25 years Pantone has released their colour of the year. The selected colour is then used by a whole selection of industry's from beauty, fashion and interiors, to name a few.

Pantone elaborates on the decision and meaning behind selecting the colour Peach Fuzz for 2024. It's certainly made me feel all warm and cosy.

"Subtly sensual, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration. A warm and cosy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others or for enjoying a moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary this creates, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz presents a fresh approach to a new softness. An appealing peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz inspires belonging, recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from."

I think there is an expectation that peachy hues are difficult to style. It also has a bad rep for potentially making you look like you were kissed by a ghost! A look no Irish woman wants to be known for and I speak from experience. So lets do the leaning into it now and ignore the lure of the tanning salon in order to wear this years Pantone colour of the year!

lets look at it's good qualities and then maybe it won't be so scary.

Peach exudes a warm and inviting vibe (hello sunsets) and big fat juicy peaches (the fruit, jeez!). I suspect the high street will be awash with peach coloured stock from bedsheets to vases!

In the Style File above I have created 4 looks that I would totally wear for a unique look that is oh so chic and on trend.

Some good peach colour combinations are:

Black/White: A black shoe goes well with a peach dress. I paired a peach top, white jeans and black shoes in the Style File above. I love the combo.

Pastels: light blue, light pink, light orange. I combined a gorgeous peach dress with a fancy electric blue sandal. Lusting after both items!

Metallics: silver, bronze, gold. A silver sandal/shoe and matching bag with a peach dress or trouser suit would be so chic!

Brown/Burgundy: These colours would be gorgeous with peach, especially corduroy and velvet textures.

Will you wear Peach Fuzz this year or does it make you feel fuzzy around the edges?

Have a peachy day!
